Studying abroad is an exciting opportunity, but it does come with some administrative and financial considerations. While we are here to assist you with the administrative process, securing a scholarship will depend on the program you choose. Your options will vary based on your destination (within or outside Europe), the duration of your stay (short or longer), and your goals (academic study or a research internship). The overview below provides detailed information on the different funding options available to support your journey. Take the first step toward a life-changing experience and discover all that the world has to offer!
And if you are part of an underrepresented group, such as working students or students with disabilities, you may also be eligible for additional financial support through relevant agencies.

Antwerp Maritime Academy collaborates with several maritime institutes across Europe and associated countries, providing a range of exchange opportunities. It has also contacts with several research institutes outside Europe. The country where you can go depends on the funding programme you are interested in.
If the courses at your host institution are taught in a language you have not yet mastered, it is crucial to take a language course beforehand. Most institutions require a language proficiency level of B1 or B2. At the Antwerp Maritime Academy, the Maritime English course equips you with an English proficiency level of B2, meeting the requirements for many programs. Alternatively, you can choose a partner institution that offers courses in English, eliminating the need for additional language preparation.
Students with specific needs, such as those with a disability or students who are employed, may be eligible for additional support. Please consult the Coordinator Internationalisation for more information on available resources and assistance.
If you are from an EU member state, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Switzerland, your health insurance should cover your stay abroad. Make sure to carry your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Alternatively, you can choose a private student insurance plan, such as those offered by Expat & Co. For all students, AMA provides accident insurance, which includes coverage for repatriation in case of serious incidents. For some destinations, specific travel insurance is mandatory. For example, if you travel to Cuba, you must have travel assistance insurance and a certificate from a recognized insurance company, stating in Spanish that the insurance is valid for your stay.
