Scholarship ‘Global Minds’

The 13 Flemish Universities of Applied Sciences & Arts - including the Antwerp Maritime Academy - joined their forces within the framework of the ‘Global Minds’- programme (VLIR-UOS). With the common Global Minds programme (travel grants, research projects) the Antwerp Maritime Academy wants to raise awareness for the 'Global South' among students and staff. The participation of students in this program will depend on the internal goals defined by AMA.

The programme

The Global Minds programme of VLIR-UOS (www.vliruos.be) aims to embed global sustainable development at the core of Flemish Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Through strategic funding and collaboration, Global Minds empowers Flemish HEIs to enhance their expertise in sustainable development across education, research, and service to society.

Existing partnerships

For this program, the Antwerp Maritime Academy (AMA) focuses its funding on collaboration with Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas (UCLV) in Santa Clara, Cuba. This partnership facilitates research internships lasting at least one month. As part of this international collaboration, dissertations must be written in English to ensure accessibility and effective communication with the collaborating partner.

Application and selection procedure

  1. A call will be launched and disseminated on Blackboard.
  2. Show your interest by sending an email the Coordinator Internationalisation  at AMA (see contacts at the bottom of the page). The grants are awarded on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so make sure you are quick to respond!
  3. Prepare a title and abstract for your research in English (half a page). The Coordinator Internationalisation will provide feedback on the abstract. Note that your application may be refused if it does not meet standards of quality.
  4. Before a request is sent to the receiving institute, your abstract must first be reviewed and deemed ready. Once approved, the Coordinator of Internationalisation will handle the process of forwarding the request on your behalf.
  5. If the receiving institute accepts your application, then the final administrative steps will be done in collaboration the Coordinator Internationalisation.
