Scholarship ‘Global Minds’

The 13 Flemish Universities of Applied Sciences & Arts - including the Antwerp Maritime Academy - joined their forces within the framework of the ‘Global Minds’- programme (VLIR-UOS). With the common Global Minds programme (travel grants, research projects) the Antwerp Maritime Academy wants to raise awareness for the 'Global South' among students and staff. The participation of students in this program will depend on the internal goals defined by AMA.

The programme

For this programme, we concentrate our scholarships in the cooperation with the Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas (UCLV) in Santa Clara, Cuba through research internships of at least 1 month. Bear in mind that you do your research in an international context and that we will ask you to write your dissertation in English.

Application and selection procedure

  • Step 1: A call will be launched and spread by Blackboard.
  • Step 2: Show your interest by sending an email to the coordinator of internationalisation. The grants are awarded on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so be fast in your response.
  • Step 3: Prepare a title and abstract of your research in English (half a page). The coordinator of Internationalisation will give you feedback on the abstract. Your application can be withdrawn if your abstract does not fulfil a minimal quality.
  • Step 4: Only when the abstract is considered as ready, a request to the receiving institute will be sent. The coordinator of Internationalisation will perform this step.
  • Step 5: If the receiving institute has accepted your application, then the final administration will be done in collaboration with the coordinator of Internationalisation.
  • Step 6: After you have signed the grant agreement, the first 70% of your scholarship will be paid after your confirmation that you have arrived.
  • Step 7: When you have completed and submitted all formal documents your testimonial about your stay after returning home, the final 30% of your scholarship will be paid.
