Scholarship Erasmus+ Studying abroad

Antwerp Maritime Academy is participating in the Erasmus+ programme. The Erasmus+ programme aims to support actions in the fields of education and training for the period 2021-2027. The programme gives opportunities to students and staff to spend a period abroad to increase their skills and employability.

The programme

We have agreements with various maritime institutions in Europe where you can go. This list can always be expanded if the desired organisation is not listed. However, the preparation of such an agreement takes some time, so inform the coordinator internationalization on time. The goal of Erasmus+ is that you compose a programme of courses you want to follow at a certain institute. You do your exams at the receiving institute and we take over the scores you earned abroad. Unfortunately, STCW-related courses cannot be replaced by courses followed elsewhere. Therefore, you can only replace the optional courses in the master or do your dissertation abroad. You can take any course that you want as long as you have not followed it before (or if the overlap with already followed courses is limited).

Application and selection procedure

  • Step 1: Show your interest by sending an email to the coordinator of Internationalisation. The grants are awarded on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
  • Step 2: Make an appointment with the coordinator internationalisation to discuss your interest.
  • Step 3: The most critical point in the Erasmus application is drawing up your program. Check the website of the institute you want to go and check their program. Some institutes have special programs for Erasmus students. Also, check the language of the courses you want to follow. We can support you in online language courses if you want.
  • Step 4: Once you have selected your program, you need to prepare the learning agreement. Your heads of faculties must agree with your program. Then it needs to be signed by you, the Antwerp Maritime Academy and by the institute that will receive you.
  • Step 5: The receiving institute often asks for your Transcript of Records (the scores of previous exams) and the European health card. Sometimes they use a special portal to submit your demand. Be sure you collect all the appropriate documents for submission. The receiving institute must agree with the program.
  • Step 6: Once both sending and receiving institute agrees with your program, you have to sign the grant agreement just before your departure. Once you send us the certificate of arrival, the first 70% of your scholarship will be paid.
  • Step 7: After you have completed and submitted all formal documents (e.g., certificate of attendance, questionnaire by Erasmus, etc.) and your testimonial, the final 30% of your scholarship will be paid.
