Scope

The IGF Basic course has been designed to meet the requirements of the STCW Convention 1978, as amended, Table A-V/3-1.

Objective

The purpose of this Code is to ensure the safe and environmentally sound design, construction and operation of ships and in particular their installations of propulsion machinery systems, auxiliary power units and/or other machinery using low flash point gas or fuel as fuel. Seafarers entrusted with certain safety tasks related to the care, use or emergency assistance of fuel on board ships covered by the IGF Code must hold a certificate of basic training for service on ships covered by the Basic IGF code.

Course Content

· Low Flash point Fuels

· General layout

· Take precautions to prevent hazards on a ship subject to the IGF Code

· Apply occupational health and safety precautions and measures.

· Fundamentals of gas detection and safety protocols.

· Fire fighting operations

· Basic Knowledge of emergency procedures, including emergency shutdown.

· Precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from release of fuels found on ships subject to IGF code.

· Knowledge about MSDs and elementary first aid.
