Scope
The STCW Electro-Technical Officer programme has been designed to meet the requirements of the STCW Convention 1978, as amended, Table A-III/6.
Objective
The programme is aligned with Table A-III/6: Specification of mandatory minimum requirements for certification of electro-technical officers.
Upon successful completion of the STCW Electro-Technical officer programme and after acquiring the required seagoing service*, the trainee will be issued the necessary certificates to serve as an Electro technical officer. However for certain types of ships, additional training is required before the person can actually be assigned on board.
The programme is recognised by the Belgian Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport.
*Required seagoing service
- With Cadet Training Record Book: not less than 12 months of which at least 6 months after the final training module.
- Without Cadet Training Record Book: not less than 36 months of which at least 6 months after the final training module as a cadet / trainee ETO / trainee electro-technical officer, ETR (III/7), or electrician.
Entry Requirements
- Minimum age: 18 years
The trainee must hold the following STCW certificates. If this is not the case, additional training can be provided.
- STCW A-III/4: Ratings forming part of an engineering watch in a manned engine-room or designated to perform duties in a periodically unmanned engine-room
- STCW A-VI/1: Basic Safety Training
- STCW A-VI/3: Advanced Fire Fighting
- STCW A-VI/2.1: Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats
- STCW A-VI/4.1: Medical First Aid
