Maritime Crew Recource Management

This course is in accordance with the provisions of chapter II, III, Section A-II/1; A-II/2, A-III/1; A-III/2; A-III/6 (leadership, teamwork and managerial skills) of the STCW Code 1995 and Regulation II/1, II/2, III/1, III/2, III/6 of the STCW Convention 1978, as amended. The course is in compliance with IMO model courses 1.39, 1.22, 7.17 and 2.07.

Maritime Crew Recource Management

Objectives

  • Maintain shared situational awareness (bridge–engine).

  • Communicate clearly using structured, closed-loop methods.

  • Speak up and challenge appropriately across ranks.

  • Manage workload/resources through prioritisation and escalation.

  • Prevent, detect, and recover from errors.

  • Decide under pressure using explicit risks/options and stop/slow triggers.

  • Adapt leadership to the situation.

  • Mitigate human–automation risks (overtrust, mode confusion, surprises).

20 hours theory and 8 hours simulator training
