18 June 2024: Friends of AMA Get-together: Afterwork drink + MISSIM Simulator visit
On Tuesday, June the 18th, the alumni gathered for afterwork drinks and bites by ‘Traiteur Magnus’ at our beloved Academy. The “Friends of AMA Get-together” was open to all Alumni and enthusiasts. During the event they had the possibility to visit the new state-of-the-art MISSIM Simulators, explained by the Academy’s instructors.
Tim Heiremans, Boardmember of the Alumni, also elaborated on the concept of the “Friends of the Alumni”-concept in his address to the guests:
“Dear Alumni and Friends of the Antwerp Maritime Academy,
It has been awhile since we have seen each other, and it pleasures us to see so many of you again.
Most of us in this room have one thing in common, you are right, it is this School, this Maritime Academy.
Lasting memories (good and bad) were made between these walls, fantastic, adventurous lifes at sea, and later ashore, were started here, the Academy is in your DNA!
When we started years ago with the Alumni Association we always stated that the Academy should be in close contact with the professional maritime industry, and the world of businesses it entails.
The Academy continuously makes efforts to keep in touch with the maritime industry and we -as an alumni association- are the glue between the School on the one hand and the professional world on the other hand.
After all, many alumni of the School are not actively sailing anymore, but are working in other land based industries and activities.
To enhance this objective, we formalized our Association into a registered non-for-profit organization, and we are introducing the Friends of AMA initiative to attract professionals and companies who might not directly be alumni, but who have interests in the Academy and it’s contacts. With a corporate partnership the Academy can assist you in making use of her facilities at your discretion.
Hence we would like to thank the sponsors who have already entered this partnership, and are still welcoming companies that would like to support or sponsor our alumni activities.
You can also support us individually by making a gift at the entrance.
Furthermore we are also welcoming new, interested board members who are willing to help us with the organization of the Association.
So please today enjoy some drinks and visit the new high-tech MISSIM simulators that have been started up especially for you by the AMA instructors…”
