You are free to select from the courses listed in our overview of English-taught courses. However, please take the following key factors into account. These guidelines are in place to help you successfully follow and gain the most from your chosen lessons.
Courses taught in English:Students can design a Learning Agreement for the second semester, selecting courses worth 30 ECTS that are taught in English. Our Master’s programs offer a wider range of English-taught courses, particularly in the second semester (February to June). To participate successfully, it is expected that you have a good understanding of English and can actively engage in spoken discussions with fellow students and lecturers. Additionally, all examinations for these courses are conducted in English;
Language level: Please keep in mind that Dutch and French are the two working languages at Antwerp Maritime Academy. If you wish to follow courses in Dutch or in French, speaking/writing/understanding Dutch or French at level B2 is necessary. Note, however, that as you go about your daily business in Antwerp, you can easily get by in English, which almost everyone speaks. Dutch is not a ‘must’!
Overlap in the schedule: You can combine several Bachelor and Master courses from different years. However, overlap in the timetable might occur. If this should occur, we may change the learning agreement after your arrival;
Acquired knowledge: For some courses acquired knowledge is mandatory (i.e., mentioned in the study guide as required preliminary credits). Courses with required previous knowledge can be followed if you have acquired that knowledge at your home institution. We ask you to send us your Transcript of Records as proof of acquired knowledge. Be aware that some courses require considerable mathematical knowledge.
