Erasmus +
Thank you for visiting our website and for exploring the Erasmus+ opportunities at the Antwerp Maritime Academy. Our academy, known in Dutch as the “Hogere Zeevaartschool” (HZS), offers Bachelor and Master programmes in Nautical Sciences and Marine Engineering. Our academy is located in Antwerp, only 50 km from Brussels.
Erasmus +
Antwerp, a city with about half a million inhabitants, is of major importance to the economic and cultural life in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium. The river Scheldt has played a fundamental role in the development of the city. The port of Antwerp is one of the largest in the world, and gives the city its international dimension. Antwerp citizens speak Dutch but most of them do understand and speak English. Take a look at a promotional video of the city of Antwerp.
Duration of the Erasmus exchange
Most students come to the Antwerp Maritime Academy for 1 semester. We also accept Erasmus exchanges of a complete academic year.
What you need to know
In order to be eligible, candidates require the following qualifications as a minimum
Foreknowledge
For some courses foreknowledge is mandatory. That foreknowledge is imposed by the sequencing of the courses. Courses with required foreknowledge can be followed if the student has acquired that knowledge at the sending institute.
Language level
Please keep in mind that Dutch and French are the two working languages at the Antwerp Maritime Academy. Speaking/writing/understanding Dutch or French at a level B2 is absolutely necessary for incoming exchange students wishing to follow courses in Dutch or French.
